Or take the Cascade Lakes Highway, the gateway to hundreds of pristine wilderness trails and lakes.

Mt. Bachelor Sightseeing. From July 1st through Labor Day, ride the Pine Marten Express lift up the mountain and enjoy spectacular views and mountain air. Lunch is served at Sunrise Lodge and dinner in the Pine Marten Lodge on Friday and Saturday evenings. 800-829-2442.  Details.

Rock Climbing. Within 30 minutes of the resort is Smith Rock State Park. It anchors a roster of top flight climbing sites that attract die-hard sport climbers from all over the world. The close access to the base of these hikes also allows for a great vantage point for climbers at heart who just want to watch.

Hiking.  Central Oregon's Cascade mountains offer many great hikes from easy to challenging, and you don't have to go far to get spectacular views, whatever the time of year.
