This blog post is all about Sunriver white water rafting, so whether you are looking for a family-friendly adventure, or a thrilling excursion through intense rapids, the Deschutes River has something to offer everyone. Check out our list of the best whitewater rafting tour companies near Bend and Sunriver to help you choose the adventure that is right for you!

Whitewater Rafting Tour Companies near Bend and Sunriver, Oregon:

Sun Country Tours

Sun Country Tours - Home of the Big Eddy Thriller since 1978!

Sun Country Tours has been running whitewater rafting excursions in Central Oregon since 1978. Their most popular trip is the Big Eddy Thriller, a fun 3-mile trip down class I and III rapids designed for the whole family – young kids don’t even have to paddle! Sun Country Tours also offers trips down the Lower Deschutes, the McKenzie, and North Umpqua. On Wednesdays in July and August, you can book a Raft ‘N Brew tour (21 and older only). Best Baked Goods in Bend

Best Baked Goods in Bend

Best Baked Goods in Bend

Mt. Bachelor Village vacation rentals offer so much adventure right outside your door! The Deschutes River Trail, SUP-ing in the Old Mill District, and miles of bike paths invite all of us to get “outdoorsy.” Have a foodie in your group? Mt. Bachelor Village is also well located to take advantage of Bend’s many great places to eat, including the town’s best bakeries! Get ready to inhale that fresh desert mountain air mixed with the smell of butter, sugar, and freshly baked dough! Bend’s bakery scene is on the rise, and these spots are worth the visit … and the calories!

  • The Sparrow Bakery – With two locations, this bakery has quickly become a favorite amongst locals and visitors. No stop in Bend is complete without trying their Ocean Roll, a hand folded croissant filled with freshly ground cardamom, vanilla, and sugar. We also love their banana bread, and savory and sweet croissant selections.
  • Nancy P’s Café & Bakery – Locals know this is the place to fuel up before heading to the slopes. Start your morning off right with a specialty coffee, and one of their famous savory pastry pockets filled with eggs, cheese, veggies, and your choice of ham, bacon, or veggies. Vacationing with your pup? Order a barkscotti treat too, and the whole family can enjoy their pastry (or full breakfast) from the dog-friendly garden patio.
  • Village Baker – There is nothing better than freshly baked bread and butter! Stop by the Village Baker to pick up some fresh bread to enjoy alongside some home cooked meals prepared in your cozy Meredith Lodging rental. They offer an amazing selection of rustic, Old World breads, and some loaves with a twist, like traditional European-style country sourdough, walnut and raisin, Bavarian-style black butte porter, or cinnamon swirl brioche bread, perfect for French toast! They also serve decadent pastries, like their coveted cardamom brioche – dipped in honey butter and rolled in cardamom spice and brown sugar before baking.
  • Too Sweet Cakes – We could not agree more with the Too Sweet Cakes motto that life is too short to not be sweet! Choose from croissant donuts, cinnamon rolls, doughnut holes, savory and sweet scones and croissants, and so much more! We recommend trying their toaster pastry, think a grown-up version of a Poptart – a blackberry raspberry pastry filled with vanilla bean glaze with cinnamon crunch pieces.

Ready to discover some of the best baked goods in Bend, alongside some of the best scenery and outdoor recreation available on the West Coast?

Meredith Lodging has you covered with a wide selection of Mt. Bachelor vacation rentals to suit all your needs and budget. You can view our entire Mt. Bachelor Village Collection online, or call our Reservations Team at (888) 752-2220. We hope to see you soon!

Ready to explore the breathtaking scenery, endless outdoor activities, and exclusive amenities for our guests? Book a stay at Mt. Bachelor Village Resort by Meredith Lodging for a memorable family getaway!

Find an Oregon Vacation Rental to Match Your Activities

While searching around for things to do in Oregon, you can sometimes lose sight of why you want to visit in the first place. With that in mind, it’s crucial to find somewhere that satisfies your needs. For example, if you wish to indulge in some retail therapy, you’ll probably want a vacation rental near Bend, where you’ll find several well-known retailers. Or, if you’re going to try surfing, beachcombing, or ocean fishing, you’ll want to post up somewhere like Newport, Lincoln City, or Cannon Beach.

Here are our top 5 family-friendly hikes in Bend:

  • Deschutes River Trail. This 3-mile, family-friendly trail can be accessed directly from Mt. Bachelor Village resort – it runs right through the property! Enjoy the convenience and beauty of this favorite trail for locals and visitors alike. Certain parts of the trail allow dogs, but we recommend verifying before heading out with your favorite four-legged friend!
  • Pilot Butte. The Butte is in the center of Bend and is open year-round. This trail is roughly 1.5 miles in and out and will reward you with stunning views of the Cascades and high desert vistas. During the summer, you can also drive to the top of Pilot Butte for a 360-degree view of Bend!
  • Tumalo Falls. No trip to Bend is complete without a hike on this iconic trail. In the winter, you can snowshoe 2.5 miles from the parking area to view the stunning falls, or in warmer months, park closer to the falls. There is a $5/vehicle/day recreation fee site – passes are available onsite, or you can purchase online here.
  • Todd Lake. This popular trail is suitable for all ages. The 1.5-mile loop takes you around the lake with only a slight elevation gain. The trail is only open during the summer months but will spoil you with beautiful views of mountains and wildflowers. If you are lucky, you may see hundreds of baby frogs that hatch here in early summer.
  • Benham Falls. Spend an afternoon hiking amongst old growth ponderosa pine along the Deschutes River. There are a few waterfalls along the trail – perfect for that family photo, as well as several picnic areas, great for a resting area and a snack to fuel up as you continue exploring the beauty of Bend. Leashed pups allowed.

In order to reach the hot springs, you will need to hike along the shore for 1.25 miles. The hike is flat and appropriate for all fitness levels and offers stunning views along the way.
  • Spelunking. Tucked away in the high desert of Central Oregon hides hundreds of lava tubes formed from Oregon’s volcanic past. Sawyer Cave is a hidden gem. If you choose to visit, you will likely have the cave to yourself. We recommend parking at the Little Nash Sno-Park, following the edge of the forest to get to the cave.

Bring a flashlight and dress warm, as temperatures drop dramatically inside the cave. The cave is easily accessible and open all year long.
